BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — The Birmingham-based online meal planning service eMeals.com has appointed Internet entrepreneur Forrest Collier chief executive officer, the company announced today.

Collier previously was CEO of InternetSafety.com, which was acquired by McAfee last year. He also founded SmithMorgan LLC, a venture consulting service, and worked in marketing at American Airlines.

The meal planning business, which is subscription based, provides users with detailed meal plans and shopping lists. The eight-year-old business says it has “hundreds of thousands” of subscribers and saves users an average of 30 percent on grocery bills.

Collier’s hiring coincides with the addition of new services including a “natural and organic” menu plan designed for use at Whole Foods Market. The company plans to announce new grocery store partnerships and mobile applications later this year, it said in a prepared statement.
